Description

The ASTRI Mini-Array is an array of nine Cherenkov telescopes under construction at the Teide Astronomical Observatory in Tenerife, Spain. Its Schwarzchild-Couder double-mirror optical design allows its camera to cover a large field of view (∼10 degrees in diameter), providing good gamma-ray sensitivity and angular resolution in the multi-TeV range and beyond (up to ∼200 TeV). This will facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the multi-TeV sky.
The ASTRI Mini-Array's scientific goals include the spectral and morphological characterization of PeVatron candidates and other ultra-high energy sources.
Science operations are planned to start in 2026, with the first four years dedicated to Pillar science as an experiment, gradually transitioning to an observatory model open to the scientific community.
